The Putnam Soil and Water Conservation District was organized in 1946. The Putnam Soil and Water Conservation District is a legal subdivision of the state government of Florida, established by the Soil Conservation Act of 1937, Chapter 582 of the Florida Statues.
 
 

Powers and Duties:

 
The Putnam Soil and Water Conservation District have the abilities to exercise the following public powers as delegated pursuant to Chapter 580.20, Florida Statues.
 
(1) To conduct surveys, investigations, and research on soil erosion, floodwater, and sediment damages, conservation issues, development and utilization of soil and water resources, disposal of water, preventative and control measures, and to conduct demonstration projects to demonstrate effective conservation methods.
 
(2) To implement preventive and control measures for conservation, development and utilization of soil and water resources, and the disposal of water such as engineering, methods of cultivation, vegetation, changes in land use, and other private lands or public owned lands.
 
(3) To develop comprehensive plans for conservation of soil and water resources, the control and prevention of soil erosion, for flood prevention, or the development and utilization of soil and water resources, and disposal of water.
 
(4) To manage agents of federal or state agencies and soil-conservation, erosion-control, erosion-prevention projects, or any project for flood-prevention or for the conservation, development and utilization of soil and water resources, and the disposal of water, and to accept contributions in money, services, or materials from federal or state agencies in carrying on its operations.
 
(5) To cooperate or enter into agreements with public agencies and landowners in conservation activities.
 
(6) To adopt land use regulations governing the use of lands within the district that conserve soil and water resources.
 
(7) To allow for the establishment of watershed improvement within the district.
